Today, especially in the world we live in, there is an extremely important need to show your support and give thanks to all our local and nationwide law enforcement officers. These brave men and women put their lives on the line every day. They hug and kiss their family’s goodbye bearing the full weight of what they are about to endure on their next shift. LEO’s may experience any type of situation from vehicle accidents, to domestic violence calls, or even witness more dreadful crime scenes that the typical civilian does not even want to think about. They must prepare for any type of unimaginable scenario, most of the time dealing with civilians when they themselves are at their worst. I always remember a LEO friend of mine told me “next time you get pulled over or have any run in with the police, don’t automatically assume he/she is a bad person because they come across with an attitude. Remember, for all you know they could have just left a call where a child was hurt or something even harsher. Having to fluctuate between different levels of stressful situations is hard enough. The least you can do is not have an attitude toward them and make their jobs worse. Be kind, be courteous, and oblige with all their demands.”  I have always had this in the back of my mind anytime I have had an encounter with a LEO. These brave men and women have enough to deal with. If I can alleviate a small portion of that by simply being kinder and easier to deal with, then I can feel as though I am doing my part, however small it may be. 

In what is one of the most peculiar times, where people are calling for the defunding of law enforcement, as riots ensue throughout the country and morale is certainly at an all-time low, they need to know that we stand behind them and behind the American flag with unwavering support and appreciation. Let us work together to bring our love and support for our brothers, sisters, children, parents, spouses, and friends. Whomever you know, even if it’s a stranger, show your appreciation by stopping to thank them for their service, shake their hand, give them a hug, buy them coffee, pay for their meals if they’re behind you at a restaurants drive-thru. Whatever this token of gratefulness is or however mundane you think it is, just imagine being in a LEO’s shoes. I guarantee that any law enforcement officer would not only be humbled but also truly touched by your generosity. Personally, if I were on the job, seeing all that is happening in today’s crazy world, I would be grateful for a simple "Thank you". It would give me light at the end of the tunnel and remind me why I took this job to begin with…. To protect and serve the community and help make the world a better place.
