Flag Day is celebrated on June 14 and commemorates the date in 1777 when the second Continental Congress approved the design for the fledgling nation’s official flag by passing the Flag Act, which stated, “Resolved, that the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes alternating red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.”
