Celebrate the New Year the Lucky Shot Way
As we watch yet another year pass, the departure of 2020 will be unique in the worldwide enthusiasm for its elimination, the United States in particular. We don't need to bore you with all the challenges you have lived with for the past year. We are just making a point about how much 2020 sucked.
If nothing else, 2020 was a poignant reminder of the wisdom and value of our great Second Amendment. For the first time, millions of Americans realized that their safety and liberty must be their responsibility. The reality of relying on the government is something much different than they believed until now.
So, let's agree to leave 2020 behind us and look forward to 2021 and beyond.
With all the lockdowns and other proclamations, like no family holidays, that made 2020 such a confounding and disappointing year, Lucky Shot wants to help you move forward with fun and purpose. To that end, we offer this blog with some ideas to make your New Year's celebration a fun transition from the year that never should have happened to renewed enthusiasm and a much better year to come.
New Year's Resolutions
Every year about 45% of Americans commit to at least one New Year's resolution; only about 8% make it a full year. The other 55% of us realize the folly of resolutions and choose to remain spectators, rather than continue with our self-delusion.
Still, New Year's resolutions are a tradition, and we see no reason that this tradition can't be exploited for fun and entertainment. Since most of us will fail to stick with our resolution, we devised a simple game that mixes some lighthearted fun with the potential for sarcastic and outlandish resolutions.
The Lucky Shot Resolution Finder
You, as host, will need to prepare for this game ahead of time. Sometime before your party, return to our website and select five or more different designs. Begin the game by having each player select any of the designs to create a real or fictitious New Year's resolution based on their chosen artwork.
Here is one example:
God Guns and Guts Made America Free
"I resolve to enter the priesthood, master skeet shooting, and lose 50 pounds in 2021."
After everyone is ready, have the first participant read their resolution out loud to the entire group.
Next, have the group vote on whether this resolution is real or made up.
The resolution's author then announces the answer, and everyone who guesses wrong takes a shot or chugs a beer; it just depends on what the host wants.
When everyone has presented their resolution for the group's response, take a vote for the most creative answer. Then, for the finale, the creator and everyone who voted for the winning resolution gets a shot. It's okay if the losers get a little jealous, they can have a shot too.
You can change this up and vote for categories like the most insane, the most troublesome, or the most boring; make it whatever you like; it's your game.
A Variation on the Resolution Finder
Add a compounding wrinkle and have each contestant pantomime their resolution like Charades. Every incorrect guess is rewarded with a shot, just like the regular version of our game. However, there are many more opportunities for wrong guesses in this version, which will significantly increase the entertainment value.
There really is no loser in either of these games, that is, unless you pass out and wake up with a magic marker clown face.
Turning resolution-making into a fun game is all well and good if you are interested in resolutions. Not everyone is, and we wanted to be inclusive with our New Year's party recommendations. Here is another idea where the entire party is the game, and custom cocktails are the game pieces.
The Lucky Shot Cocktail Cauldron
There are a couple of ways that you can set this game up. Once again, each player will need to select their preferred Lucky Shot design to fashion their response. You can do the same as before and choose several different descriptions for them to choose from.
Alternately, you can create more competition by printing out screenshots of our product pages and having each player throw a dart to determine their design. Don't have a dartboard, throw the printouts on the floor and do a bottle-cap toss.
This game's challenge is for your guest to create an outrageous cocktail based on the message in their design. Make sure your guests understand this is a no-holds-barred, anything goes custom cocktail competition. They should create their recipe regardless of the liquor or other agreements on hand.
Here are some examples:
- I Make His Dog Tags Jangle
- Fireball, Blanco tequila, and a fiery float of 151 seem appropriate. But, adding some Tabasco and a jalapeno garnish will definitely create some jingle jangle.
- It's Been a SNAFU FUBAR Kind of Year
- Start with 12 ounces of a good dark Porter, add 2 ounces of espresso, 1 ½ ounce of cinnamon liqueur, and garnish with a fresh kale leaf.
If that's not FUBAR enough, serve it with a bratwurst swizzle.
We could go on, but the point of this challenge is to stir creativity and enthusiasm in your guests to make your party one to remember.
Speaking of liquor on hand, stock up on a wide variety of spirits, have your most daring contestants make their recipe for all to try. However, we should warn you that although this escalation is exceptionally entertaining, you may end up with overnight guests. |
Have each participant read the recipe and describe the appearance, taste, and effect of their creation in detail.
If the vote is unanimous either way, everyone takes a shot, everyone.
In a split vote that is an overall approval, the naysayers take a shot.
When a split vote runs to the negative, the recipe's author and supporters take a shot.
We're not sure how you might determine a winner. But by the end of this game, it's doubtful that anyone will care or even notice.
Unfortunately, some areas of the country are still suffering lockdowns that put severe limits on gathering together. But, fortunately for you, these Lucky Shot activities are all suitable for both in-person and online celebrations. Obviously, everyone would prefer to celebrate in person, but these games should be just as crazy on video as they are in real life.
Whether you follow through with our zany New Year's suggestions or go your own way, everyone here at Lucky Shot wishes you the very best in 2021. Happy New Year to you and yours, and may your New Year's celebration set a fun tone for the year to come.
